Hastings: Jack In The Green!

I am so sad I couldn't make it to this year's festival! Here's some shots from last year's blog post. I love how my town put on a great show, the hard work and care of the organisers and everyone involved really shines through. Embrace all that the spring season brings!

In my hometown of Hastings, we really know how to put on a show. Every year, the town gets stuck in to the Jack In The Green festival over the first May Bank Holiday weekend. The festival celebrates the start of summer, and the festivities conclude with the Jack In The Green procession. Marching through the old town, drummers, morris dancers, and town-folk dressed in their green finery, to burn the Jack on the west hill! (Fear not, the Jack is a larger-than-life garland of greenery!)
This year I decided to bring my camera along, and despite the drizzly weather, the colour and atmosphere was as vibrant as ever. I focused on the faces in the procession, their costumes and face paint, as they chatted and cheered the Jack up the hill...
